Panasonic Debuts Mobile Phone LSI Chip on UniPhier Platform

Japanese Panasonic recently introduced a new LSI (Large Scale Integration) chip based on the company's proprietary UniPhier (Universal Platform for High-quality Image Enhancing Revolution) platform for digital A/V devices. The new LSI chip, codenamed MN2CS0038, is for use in mobile phones, Nikkei Electronics reported.

According to the Nikkei report, the UniPhier-based chip is expected to cut back on mobile phone power consumption by approximately 25% and reduce device footprint by around 40%. Matsushita expects to begin sample shipments at the end of July 2008. In addition to the new mobile phone chip, the company has already developed a UniPhier-based LSI chip for digital TVs.
